Dec. 9, 2014 - Final Mission Email

Sorry, I didn't get this out sooner. We have been busy preparing for Ashley's return. She flew in last night, safe and sound. We are SOOO thrilled to have this beautiful young woman home with us again!

Love, Lisa

Hey all,

Georgia has definitely become a home for me. I think about the empty heart I had when I read the words, "Georgia Atlanta North Mission, preaching the Gospel in the English language." And how absolutely overflowing my heart is with gratitude and love for those very same words. Wow.

Our investigators, M & A are doing well. They are in good hands and we don't worry that both of us will be leaving. He got a job and she had an interview for a promotion. He is actually working for our ward mission leader. He does a really good job of keeping work and baptism separate. He's being really careful. But he did tell us a cool story. He said that a few days after M started working there, a co worker asked if he was a member! He has the "mormon glow"! (The Mormon Glow is a real thing! Google it.)

She has a lot of questions all of the sudden, so we called her husband about his thoughts and he said that she tends to put a lot of obstacles in her way right before making an important decision, but once she makes the decision, she is very firm in that. He is ready to be baptized. He doesn't know everything, but he believes it. And he knows that when he receives the gift of the Holy Ghost, that he'll feel that confirmation that it's right. We asked him if he had considered getting baptized so he can then tell her about his own experience and he has, but his gut feeling tells him just to wait a little bit longer. I love them. A lot :) Whenever they decide to get baptized will be the perfect day for them :)

Remember 'He is the Gift?'! Well. It is fantastic. We iPad-less missionaries are super creative and recorded it on our cameras so we can use it contacting! AND we tried something new! We went contacting at a gas station! Why haven't we tried that sooner?!? But really though. People are stuck at the pump... so they have two minutes. There was one kind gentleman who said that he didn't have time... I laughed... out loud.
We tracted into this guy who watched it with us and about 10 seconds into the video he goes, "I've seen this before. One of my friends from high school posted it on facebook. I haven't talked to him in many years... but I watched it anyway. It's really good!" So fun!! It has been so fun to share the Christmas Spirit with those around me :) I love Christmas!! :)

A. & M. some new investigators came to a big ole nativity celebration that was put on at the stake center. They got caught in traffic and then ended up at the temple instead of the stake center... but still came. They made it for the last song and the closing prayer. But they loved the few minutes that they heard. She had us over this morning to make tamales with her :) I love her with all of my heart.

I'm really grateful for Georgia. For the love that has come to my heart because the Heavenly Father was gracious enough to let one of his very imperfect daughters take part in the joy of sharing the Gospel.

See y'all soon!

~Sis Jacobs.

Dec. 1, 2014 . . . "Work hard. Be smart. Keep and follow all those rules and we'll see you at the top. Be there."

Hello to all of you in Sister Jacobs' email group. It's hard to believe, but Ashley is winding up her mission and will return home Dec. 14th. Her homecoming talk is scheduled for Sunday, Dec. 28th at 11am at the Lindon Stake Center, 1050 E. 100 N., Lindon, UT. You are invited to come and share in that day with us.

Thank you for your love and support!
Lisa (Ashley's mom)

What a week!!

Last Monday was Sister Adorable's Birthday!!! She's legal! Haha. We had a lot of fun with that :)

This week was really fun helping people get ready for the holidays. We had a lot of opportunities to serve by decorating or helping cook or bake. It was a great way to get to know less active or non member family of the ward. I loved decorating the Christmas tree and talking about Christmas traditions and meaningful ways to #ShareTheGift.

Speaking of which... I'm sure y'alls facebooks have been plastered with 'He is the Gift' video clip. If not... start it!! christmas.mormon.org :) We have been sharing this with everyone and it has been awesome!! Sis Adorable and I want to really run with this! We're gonna share the gift by laminating a "I will share the gift by..." and take it tracting with us! As we talk to people about the true meaning of Christmas, we'll invite them to use a expo marker to fill in the blank and then take a pic of them sharing the Gift, and allow them the chance to post it on facebook or instagram or whatever other social media they have! We are so excited!!! :)

We shared the video with our former investigator, J., and he loved it!! He has a Christmas project every year and didn't know what to do this year... until now!! He wants to take 'He is the Gift' video and run with it, too!! His plan is to download it, burn it onto a bunch of DVDs and give them out to his pastor and minister friends so that they can show it in their churches!! There are perks to serving in the South and teaching retired pastors :) Haha.

But really though. I'm super pumped about He is the Gift. And I'm so grateful that I'll get to be on both sides of the "veil" for the duration of the initiative. So exciting. I love Christmas :)

I haven't told y'all about I., I don't think. But she's really awesome! When I first got here, we got a media referral for a woman named I. The elders had taught her husband once or twice and he wanted her to learn, too. So he went on mormon.org and referred her. We went over and life got real hard. Every time we tried to set up an appointment or we went over, either her father was really sick, she was taking care of someone's kids or... lots of things. She was always super sincere, but super busy. About a month ago she called us out of the blue and apologized for not speaking with us for a while, but her father got really, really sick and passed away. She was expected to cover all of the funeral costs alone. They almost had to move, but the landlord allowed them to stay but raised their rent to a ridiculous amount so they could stay. Then her son got in a real bad football accident and he'll have to have 4 surgeries to repair it. The first surgery was supposed to be an hour, but took 6 hours instead. His knee was a lot worse than they anticipated. It was really sad and life has just been super hard. The ward jumped in and helped to provide a Thanksgiving dinner for her family. It was so humbling to be able to take that to her with the elders who then gave her and her son a blessing. I am so grateful for opportunities that I have to serve others and to appreciate all that I am blessed with. It was a little bit sad to "hand her over" to the elders so they can teach her family, but it's what they need at this time. Once life slows down for them, she'll be so ready for the Gospel. She's ready for it now.

Thanksgiving!!!! I'm grateful for my Dacula family. I'm grateful for my immediate family as well, but it was so special to spend Thanksgiving with a few families in the ward and to be filled with love. So much love. I remember sitting in sacrament meeting yesterday, trying to focus during the sacrament. But thinking about Christ's suffering doesn't really appeal to me. I understand that the Atonement was the most essential part of all of existence, but I feel morbid just thinking about Christ suffering. I'm still trying to figure out this whole sacrament thing. So I looked around at the ward and felt so much love for them. I remember thinkin, "I wish I could just be cleansed by love." And then it came to me, "But you are. It is always by love that you are made clean." I love love :) And that's all there is to it! :)

We saw M. & A twice this week. He found a job. And they're still not sure about getting baptized. I love them. It's not about me. I get that. But this week, especially last night, I really, really, really get that. They'll get baptized when they're ready. Whether we are here or not. I'm so grateful for the opportunity I've been given to teach them. They're close. So close. I'm glad this is His work, and not mine. Because if it were mine, I'd be a lot more frustrated, haha :)

I have so many stories, and so little time. I'll share more next week!
Love y'all!
Happy December!! :)
~Sister Jacobs.

Me, Sis Adorable, Sis Alvey, Sis Rowe on Thanksgiving :)
Fun fact. Sis Rowe got a job at Aggie Ice Cream a few months
after I left! We know the same people! Yay! :)

Nov. 24, 2014 - A week of miracles!

'A week of miracles'

First and foremost, M. & A.
Well. We met with them last Monday for a formal lesson. The Relief Society president came with us and we had a really good lesson. Like. Real good. We talked a lot about faith (it's a common theme...) and how we receive answers to prayers. And how we know when something is right. I shared some experiences from making that final decision to come on a mission that I never expected to share with investigators. But it reminded me of how much Heavenly Father loves us. He wants us to do what we want to do. And He wants us to want what's best for us.

M. made the comment that he likes to simplify things. That it all rests on Joseph Smith. For if Joseph Smith really restored the Gospel of Jesus Christ, then everything else is true. He asked us, "what if it's not?" And I was like, "Well. Can I be bold?" And he was like, "Nothing has stopped you from being bold in the past!" And I was like, "Okay! Well. If you decide to get baptized and then decide that none of it is true... then it's no big deal because the baptism isn't valid, right? but if it is true, and I know it is, there are so many blessing, like the gift of the Holy Ghost that are just around the corner!" And M. was like, "That's even something that we've talked about before!" When it comes to the Gospel, they just get it.

On Tuesday we had our Ward Family Historian come with us to show A. how to set up a FamilySearch account. Her husband, M., already has one. His grandfather was very active before he passed away and he's got a ton of family history done. She was clicking back through his family history and he's got some lines that go back to the 1200s! Anyway. Before we got started, M. asked a question about job opportunities. He interviewed for a job that may need him to work on Sundays. He asked if that would prevent him from being able to get baptized. We told him mostly likely not, but to talk to the Lord about it and to go from there. A. piped up and said, "Well. If he does get that job, will working occasional Sundays prevent him from getting a temple recommend?" And I wanted to be like, A. Honey. I think getting baptized is a bigger hurtle than the temple recommend right now, haha. But I didn't. :) It brings us comfort to know that they recognize their real goal is to be sealed in the temple.

On Friday we had another lesson with them. That morning we thought and studied and prayed and nothing was coming to us. They're done with all of the lessons, so we've just been going by the Spirit for the last month. The only thing we really felt strongly about was to invite them to be baptized on Dec 2nd. Sis Adorable felt really strongly that we needed to talk about prayer, too. On top of all of that, I wasn't going to be there. We would be on an exchange with another sister missionary and I was the one leaving for the night. Since I wasn't there for the lesson, here's Sis Adorable's account:

Sister Jacobs and I prayed and prayed but didn't feel like we were receiving direction. We were somewhat frustrated, but in the end we chose prayer to be the topic and then we went on exchange. I was particularly stressed out because Sister Jacobs typically leads lessons, but because of the exchange, that duty would fall to me. I normally wouldn't have a problem with that, but we had no lesson plan and I would be teaching with a sister I barely knew. Right before the lesson, Sister Alvey (the sister who came with me) and I plead that the Lord would lead us. M. and A. requested for this lesson to be in the home of some members who have fellowshipped them.

When we got to the lesson, Sister Alvey could sense my nervousness so she began by asking M & A about their spiritual journey. That was really great and I found out a lot of new information. At one point they mentioned something and it made me think of something I had written in my journal a few days before. I had felt prompted to bring my journal, which made absolutely no sense considering I don't share my journal with anyone. However, I brought it into the lesson anyway and shared an entry. Here is a quick summary:

"Sister Jacobs and I had an interesting experience this week. Something had really upset me and I turned to her for words of wisdom. However, rather than saying just the right thing like she normally does, she left me to ponder. I felt hurt and abandoned. I went to the kitchen table and said a heartfelt prayer. I read The Book of Mormon for a few minutes afterward and felt much better. It was then that a certain truth became very personal to me. So often we turn to others to give us the solace we need. We wait for certain circumstances to change or events to occur until we allow ourselves to feel peace. However, our Father in Heaven and Savior Jesus Christ are the only source of LASTING solace and peace. Every sorrow and every heartache, Christ felt first. He is reaching out to us but we must reach out to him in order to partake of the Balm of Gilead he wants to soothe our souls with."

Upon sharing this with M & A,  we had a really good conversation about prayer, but I did not feel the excitement that I normally feel when we teach them. I wanted to invite them to be baptized, but I felt it was not right. I thought to myself, why would I feel so strongly that I needed to invite them to be baptized and then be told the time was not right. I was, quite frankly, really disappointed and felt misled. At that point, I ended the lesson, since it was time for us to go home, and was just about to ask Brother T. to say the closing prayer when.....M asked if he could share something with us before we closed.

M: "We've been thinking a lot and quite honestly the only thing holding us back from being baptized is my job situation."
A: "Sister Adorable you've told us that God will speak to us in a way that we will understand. If M. gets a job, that will be him showing me that this is the right path."
M: "What are your thoughts?"
*silence* *heartpounding*
Sister Adorable: "Well Sister Jacobs and I have actually discussed this is great length and we feel that you will not get a job until you get baptized"
*more silence*Sister Adorable thinks to herself ,''oh no. What have I done?!"
Sister Alvey: "M, if you were Satan and you knew that the only thing holding you back from being baptized was getting a job, what would you do?"
M: "I would do everything in my power to make sure I didn't get a job"
The atmosphere in the room immediately changes and the members, missionaries and M and A have a long discussion about how the Lord has blessed us when we were not financially stable.
Sister Adorable: "As we were preparing for this lesson, there were two things that came to mind. The first was prayer. The second was that both of you need to be baptized on December 2nd"
M and A both perk up on the sofa as they hear that date.
Sister Alvey: "A, why did you perk up when you heard that date?"
A: "Don't read too much into it."
*M's' phone rings*
M: "It's the Bishop! Do you mind if I take this call?"
He leaves in the middle of the lesson.
A: "What made yall say December 2nd?"
Sister Adorable: "I don't know. That is just the day we felt was right"
A: "Because we have been talking about getting baptized. We know the job thing is an issue, but we've thinking about just doing it next week. As we talked about it though, November just didn't feel right. So we thought maybe the first week of December would be good"
He walks back in and sits back down on the sofa.
M: "Wait you told them about that? Well I might as well tell them about the other thing. Well the other day I was looking for subbing jobs and there was one available on December 2nd. I felt like I shouldn't take it though"
Sister Adorable: Well that sounds like an answer to me. So will yall do it? Will you be baptized on December 2nd?
*silence*
Sister T: Oh come on! What else do you need? We're all betting money that yall will get baptized!
M: We just don't know!
Sisters Alvey and Adorable: Yes you do!
M: Well I'm all in, but I don't want A to get baptized for me.
A: Well, we're cautious people and I don't know.
M: How about we pray about it and get back to you?

I love Sis Adorable. She's a good story-teller :)
So pretty much our ward mission leader offered M part time job stuff until he finds a legit job. They both came to church and met with Bishop during the 2nd and 3rd hour of our Sunday meetings. Hopefully that went well. We'll talk to them in more depth about it on Tuesday. *crosses fingers.*

And now for some miracles.
Sooo Monday morning I woke up real sick. Our Pday consisted of sleeping. emailing. sleeping. and M & A's lesson. As we got up to out the door for the lesson, Sis Adorable wasn't so sure about it. I had a fever. We were still sitting in the car waiting for our team-up, so I said a quick prayer. I was expecting a miracle. I have been called as a missionary to do His work. And if that means that I would feel worse after the lesson so I could have strength and energy while we were there, so be it. I expressed these thoughts with Father in Heaven and asked for strength. After the prayer my voice lost its scratch, my chills disappeared and the only evidence of my sickness was a sniffle here or there. Much like I expected, the chills and fever resumed once we got back in the warmth of our car.

Tuesday morning I asked Elder Fowers (one of the Elders that came out with me and Sis Adorable) for a blessing. He blessed me that I wouldn't miss a day of work and that Sister Adorable and I would be able to bring people to the waters of baptism and back into activity. What a powerful blessing. That is all that I needed. Tuesday was the coldest day thus far this year and we were able to do so much! I was so grateful-- I am so grateful for the power of the priesthood and the blessing it is to be surrounded by so many spiritual giants who either hold the priesthood, or perform a priesthood function of sharing the Gospel.

Wednesday we took it easy. Mistake. We did good work, but we did a lot of the less strenuous parts of missionary work. By Wednesday night, I was feeling yucky again. And then I had this epiphany. Heavenly Father was going to bless me as well as I would work. I didn't work as hard on Wed, so I wasn't healed as much. Well. I fixed that right quick! And Heavenly Father sure has blessed me :) I'm feeling a lot better.

On Thursday we had the parable of the Red Velvet Cake. This story starts a LOOONG time ago when Sister Jacobs was a 'baby' missionary (at the beginning of her mission). My trainer and I were going through a list of less actives to visit and we miraculously got in a gated community to visit one of them. At the end of the lesson, the less active gave us each a freshly baked cookie and wished us well. As we walked out to our car, Sister Loader smirked and said, "Guess what. This morning I prayed for a cookie." I looked at her, "You what?" "I prayed for a cookie. I am Heavenly Father's daughter. He loves me. Why wouldn't He bless His daughter who is doing His work with a cookie? So I prayed for one." We laughed and I've yet to forget that experience. I know that He loves us. Well. I told this story to Sister Adorable and then thought nothing else of it. We were at dinner on Thursday and one of their daughters walks into the dining room with a red velvet cake. Sister Adorable goes, "Is that seriously a red velvet cake?!" And she almost started to cry. You see, she had prayed that morning for a red velvet cake. Heavenly Father is in the details of our lives. He really is.

This is insanely long...
Have a happy Thanksgiving and remember that Heavenly Father loves you!! :)

Nov. 17, 2014 'Hastening the work!'

Quote of the week "Come, sit by me and let me serenade you with opera"....

What a week.

It has been so interesting to see the Lord work with Sister Adorable and I over the last few weeks. We've been doing a lot of service over the last few weeks. Like a ton. Our schedule is pretty much, lessons with M. & A., tracting, and service for members. With a few less active visits here or there. We're not finding a whole lot of new investigators and it has been kinda frustrating, but then we realized the Father in Heaven has a different task for us to focus on. The Relief Society here is really awesome, but there are a lot of "group"s. Which was something that I wanted to help with when I first got here.... but I didn't know how and it wasn't happening with 2 exchanges a week and lots of people to teach. Well, Heavenly Father has made it very doable to focus on that now! And come to find out, the Relief Society Presidency is focusing on unity with the sisters as well. Clearly there's something bigger than our plans going on.

Last Monday we had a pretty powerful lesson with M & A. We learned some really cool teaching tools last week that I think I shared and we implemented them with them. So good. We gave them notebooks before conference to take notes in and asked them to take them out and write how they felt their life would be in a year if they a) got baptized or b) didn't. A. said that her life in a year would be described with "lost" if they decided not to get baptized. M. described it, "life as is." Not that there's anything wrong with it, but they've seen a brighter light and they know it would be hard to go back to life as it was before. After that little activity, we asked them to think about their next step on this path. We had them write down what they felt they needed to do individually in order to progress. A. said that she wanted a Priesthood blessing. Our teamup was Brother Giddings, our ward mission leader. So he gladly performed that for them. M. was blessed to know that he's at a crossroads and he will make the right decision. A. was blessed that no matter what others think or say, she would have the courage to make the proper decision. When we walked out of the lesson, Brother Giddings told us that he has the strongest impression that they know, especially A.

We're doing something new with the missionaries in the zone. Our focus for the rest of the transfer is baptismal invites. We're shooting for a cumulative of 250 invites between now and the end of the transfer. Every time a companionship invites someone to be baptized, they text the Zone Leaders #FloodTheFont and then forward it out to the rest of the zone. It has been so cool to get text after text of missionaries inviting their investigators to be baptized. The work is hastening! :)

J. & M. Remember them? Well, they're really good friends with Brother Giddings and the Giddings had all four sister missionaries and J. & M. over for dinner on Thursday. It was like a preview of Thanksgiving, haha. We talked about the Gospel, but then we had to run off because of another appointment. Brother Giddings followed up with us on Sunday and told us that M. shared some very personal concerns with him and they talked about those. He also said that they asked him, "We are intrigued and fascinated by the church. Don't give up on us. We feel something here that we don't get anywhere else." That brought tears to my eyes. I'm glad that they feel something and they recognize it. I love them. I really truly do. I feel like the Lord is giving me a glimpse of how he must've felt when some of His spirit children were so close to choosing Christ, and then changed their minds. Luckily I know, and I feel very strongly. that J. & M. will come around. It'll just take a few more sets of missionaries.

A. was sick on Sunday so her husband, M. came to church alone. We introduced him to the Stake President who talked to him for a minute. We've been meeting with them for almost 4 months. Can you believe that? So crazy. Anyway, M. was touched with President's words of encouragement. We have another lesson with them tonight. It's been about a month since we've extended the baptismal invite, so we're fixin' to do it again! :)

Well. That's this week!
Love y'all!

~Sis J.

Nov. 10, 2014

Quote of the week: "You have no idea how badly I wanted to take my leg off and smack him with it!"

Well. What a week!!!

Our investigators M. and A. They know!!!!!!! Sis Adorable and I walked away from our lesson last Monday and we both just know that they know. We also feel pretty strongly that this is supposed to be a trial of their faith and that M. isn't going to get another job until they make the initial leap of faith for baptism. It's weird how I just know it. But I do. Anyway. They've been really busy this week so our next lesson is tonight They're so close! Keep praying! They'll get there

A few weeks back one of the YW asked us if we would write in a harmony line for the song "I am His Daughter" so she and her friends could sing it at the YWs night of excellence. We helped them learn the harmony and they sounded great!! It made me cry. Surprise, haha The YW of the church are so amazing. But really though, so amazing

I haven't told y'all about our other investigator A! Well. We met her on Halloween. We were tracting and it was a bit chilly. We didn't dress for the weather so we were chilly, too. We decided to knock doors near dinner which happened to be in a wealthier neighborhood. Like the great and spacious building. Or, rather, lots of little great and spacious buildings. Usually the people aren't all that receptive in that part of the are. Anyway. It was a weirdest thing. Every street that we'd prayed about had at least one person who said they'd let us come back. That's a bit deal for that subdivision. Anyway. One of those people was A. She opened the front door and said, "It's cold outside! Come in!" So we did. We talked to her for quite a bit and the Spirit was really strong. Long story short, we went back for a lesson this week We had planned to teach the Restoration, but when we got there, all she needed to know was that God loves her. We talked a lot about that. The whole lesson. She has had a lot on her shoulders. And it's nothing that I could relate to. Nothing at all. I remember praying in my heart that Father in Heaven would put the scripture in my mind that I needed to share with her, because I couldn't do it alone. He guided us as we taught together.

A few days later, we were thinking about her again and decided to "heart attack" her front door. This is my all time favorite way to show people I love them Sis Adorable and I got sticky notes and put Book of Mormon scriptures and quotes from the apostles and all sorts of good stuff on them. We stuck them all over her door and drove on our merry way. On Saturday she texted us to thank us for the notes and we invited her to church. At our lesson on Wednesday she mentioned that she is very much "spiritual" and not very "religious," so we didn't really expect her to come. But on Sunday morning, she asked for the address and brought her husband, M. We met him for the first time at church. We're really looking forward to seeing her again this week She is the sweetest sweetheart in the world. About 2 minutes after she left church, she texted us again and thanked us for inviting her. I love her lots

We had a great meeting this week with a guest speaker who has been teaching institute for like 30 years. It was amazing to watch him teach. As he taught, he said something about the cleansing power of the spirit because of the Atonement. So, essentially, every time that you feel the Spirit, you're feeling the cleansing power of the atonement! I personally think that's why the Spirit tingles. because it's a part of being cleansed I thought that was so cool!

The Dent Family threw a special Utah State University themed dinner this week. I love my fellow Aggies Sis Adorable didn't love it, haha.

Hodson, Sister Dent, Daniel, Brother Dent, Kyler, Gammon,
Me, Katya and Brigham. Good family

The Young Women's Night of Excellence Program was themed "Be your own hero."
Sis Adorable, Maya, Olivia, Eliza, Cambrie, Aidyn, me. They're so cute

November 3, 2014

Quote of the week: "I hope you aren't getting to be a... what's the word?... trunker?"

I love cool weather. Like. Way too much. This week while Sister Adorable and I were tracting, it was chilly. And I was so excited that I started skipping! Maybe my enthusiasm for the cold will rub off on my Texan companion, haha. I love her :)

Well. Our investigator M. dropped us. Moving on.

The W. Family is doing really well. We were so bummed to miss them last week, but they were, too. We talked to the 13 year old daughter and invited her to the YW's Night of Excellence and she's way stoked! She's all lined up with a ride and everything. I like this ward. They're rockstars. I don't think I express that enough. But I felt a LOT of love for them this week. :)

I like helping people move. We did that a lot this week. Which was fun :)

Halloween was great! We had to be in at 6pm. Sooo I spent 2 hours writing in my journal, and then I went to bed at 9:30! Go team! But while I was writing, I realized something really cool. A few weeks back Sister Adorable was talking to me about how she had all these goals for her mission. She wanted to help a family come back to activity, she wanted to help someone get on their mission, she wanted to teach a part member family etc. And as we've talked, she's seeing that a lot of those things  have happened. And I thought, "Well. I should've done that!" I didn't feel like I had a vision of things to do over the course of the mission... just that I wanted to do good and be good. But then I thought a minute. And I realized that I felt that I would rather help people come to the gospel that would stay, than have a lot of baptisms. And you know what? Heavenly Father is answering that unspoken prayer. I haven't had a huge about of success as far as baptisms are concerned, but each person that the Lord has allowed me to teach and witness their baptism, is still active. And I am so grateful for that. We just gotta get our investigators M. & A. on that bandwagon, haha.

We had a really good lesson with them on Saturday. We felt very strongly that we needed to talk about the Spirit. So we did. And by the end of the lesson, we both felt like we know they've received an answer. And they know it, too. It's just hard because of his job, which we understand. They're still super solid... but we've just about done all we can as missionaries. Soo we'll see. The members are taking such good care of them. They're coming to our dinner appt and we'll be watching 'The Prophet' of the Restoration with a little testimony meeting afterwards. Speaking of testimony meeting. Yesterday was perfect. Sister Adorable and I were fasting that the members who bore their testimonies would be in line with what they needed to hear. And our prayers were answered. They know they're getting baptized. It's just a matter of when. It's hard when they have to choose between paying the bills, or joining the church. Any advice from any RMs would be fantastic.

Aaaaand that's a wrap! Life is good! :)
Til next week,
Sis Jacobs.

Quote of the week:

Neophyte: A person new to a group or religious practice.
So the Lamanites who repent and are baptized are (wait for it...) Neophyte Nephites!

This week was pretty much full of miracles.

We're developing a really good relationship with the W. Family (less active). We always visit when she's making dinner so it can be crazy, but we decided to tell scripture stories to get the whole family involved. We told the story of the 2000 stripling warriors and it was so good!! It reminded Bro W. of another story (not from the Book of Mormon... but it means he was listening!) and somehow we got on the topic of Star wars. So our challenge to them was to find a star wars story that would relate to the Book of Mormon. Haha. We'll see how that goes :)

M. & A. Them folks are great! We had a kinda intense lesson with them on Friday. We were on an exchange so Sister Adorable wasn't with me... which is always hard. We teach really well together. Anyway. We were working on setting a date for baptism and a couple of things came up. One of which was the Word of Wisdom. A. likes her tea and coffee every once in a while. And Sabbath Day observance. M.  works at a church on Sunday. And after we taught about not working on Sunday, he began to realize that his work, even though it was at a church... is work. He feels torn about leaving because he's doing so much good there and doesn't want to leave them.

I realized how similar I am to him. I talked to them about the decisions I'm facing with school. I don't want to think about it, but the truth of the matter is, January is going to come and I need to have made decisions that will determine that chapter in my life. Going home doesn't mean that my mission wasn't right, or wasn't worth the time, or that I didn't make an impact, or that I will forget the lessons I've learned or people I've met when I move on to that next step. It just means that the Lord will need me elsewhere. M. made a comment that he's been thinking similarly. January is coming whether he likes it or not, and at that point church start time will change to 9am and he'll have to choose between this or that.

Last week Sister Adorable super-powerfully promised them that as they observe the commandments that we teach, they will receive an answer for sure. So I brought that up again. I don't even remember how it all went down. I just remember inviting them to strictly keep those commandments and when they did, that's when they'll receive their answer. I asked A. to stop drinking tea and coffee. And I asked M. to quit his job. I remember walking away from the lesson... scared. I didn't want them to be offended. But I knew that those were promptings and I'm here do the will of the Lord. I thought of all the people that came soooo close to baptism and at the last minute turned away. And then I remembered something that M. said in one of our lessons, "You don't dwell on the things you don't know. But you always testify of what you do know. I don't know if I have received my answer, but I do know that I have felt more peace in my life since we've met y'all." When his words came to mind, I shut out the negative thoughts. And I focused on what I do know. I know that we are here for them specifically. I know that the Lord loves them. I know that I love them. I know how I have found happiness. And I know that my purpose is to help them find that same happiness. And even though I was worried on Friday night, Sunday came and they both were at church. I am so grateful for the power of the Spirit. And the knowledge that I'm not on my own errand, but His. We're seeing them again tonight :)

All day Friday I had been making lots of phone calls trying to fill Saturday morning with a fun activity for Sister Castleton since she was visiting my area on exchanges. To no avail. So I asked her if she happened to bring a pair of pants and her service shirt. She had! So we set out Saturday morning "Service Tracting." Basically we just tract in pants and a tshirt offering to do service. I don't know what feeling was more overwhelming, the excitement of being able to fit in my jeans, or the discomfort of the jeans themselves. Who needs 'em?! Haha.

Anyway. We prayed about a certain road and started driving there. It was in a developing neighborhood and the street was reeeeally long. No houses for a good bit. We got to the end of this loooong street and there were 2 houses. Two. I looked at Sister Castleton and I was like, "Well. I guess one of these 2 people really needs help!" We knocked on the first door and we saw a little girl run up the stairs... no answer. So we walked over to the 2nd house and a woman was pulling out of her driveway. Greeeat. We walked up to her window and we were like, "Hey! We're missionaries and we're in the area just to serve! If you need any help with raking leaves or cleaning the house or..." She looked at us with wide eyes, "Are you serious?" "Yeah..." "I'm just on my way to buy some paint for the garage." "Really?! We love to paint! Can we help?!" Yes. Yes that just happened. She asked us to come back in an hour to start painting with her. Hallelujah! Praise the Lord! Can I get an Amen? Haha. We came back and met the lady who was so excited to have us there! At the end of our painting extravaganza she asked us what we wanted for pay. We just asked for a return appt to talk about the Gospel and she said, "That would be awesome. I've been trying to get closer to God lately and have been wondering how I can do that." Miracle! :) We're going to see her tomorrow. Super stoked.

Wow. I don't think I've written this much in a long time. Heavenly Father is good to me. I see miracles every day. I know it's true! :)

Quote of the week: "Fall for Jesus because He never leaves!"

Happy fall, y'all! Sorry for the late email! Columbus day had all the libraries closed, so we're doing Pday today! Yay! :)

We've been working with a less active family, the W Family. They're awesome! We just stopped by and asked if we could practice the lessons on them and this is like the 3rd week that we've seen them. They're great! They watched a couple of conference talks and we helped the mom download the Gospel library app so she can listen to the Book of Mormon on her way to and from work :)

Tracting is so good! I know I talk about it a lot... but it's amazing to me how much better my days and weeks go when we make it a priority :) Every night we pray about where to tract and kinda narrow down to a couple of different streets. We felt prompted to go to a certain one and knocked a lot of doors. We didn't find any success and it was about time to go to our next appt. We knocked on one last door and a woman opened the door. She was exhausted because she had just moved in and couldn't lift anything because of her back problems. So we got to help her! I was so grateful for the opportunity to just... help someone on the spot! :) Did she become an investigator? Nah. But we got to help and that's all that matters :)

On Saturday, the Elders had a baptism and our investigator M. came to it! His wife, A., was at work so she wasn't able to come, but it was perfect. He turned to us and mentioned that he's been to lots of different baptisms for lots of churches, but on Saturday the person getting baptized wasn't just giving something, but he was receiving something, too. It was really cool :) Church on Sunday was perfect for them! Sometimes us missionaries hold our breath on testimony meeting Sundays because we never know what'll be said... but it was perfect! Tender mercy for sure :)

Yesterday we had another lesson with M. & A. and I love them :) They are sooooooo close! A. has the Gospel Library app on her phone and uses it all the time. He prefers the paperback copy. It's always a race between the two to see who can open up to the scripture faster :) The last few lessons that we've had in members' homes have been so good. We'll leave to go to our next appt or to get home on time and they've stayed talking with the members til like 10 or 10:30pm each time! Go fellowship! They're getting close. Sister Adorable and I know that they are one of the reasons that we're companions. We just connect with them real well :)

Life is good! I can't complain! I am so happy here. And I am so grateful every day for the people that the Lord has placed in my life. Sometimes I wonder why He loves me, but I never question that He does.

The church is true my friends!

I love the South in the fall! It's pretty. It's funny. This is pretty funny :)

Oct. 6, 2014 - General Conference Comments

Quote of the week: "Sometimes we may be awkward..."

^^ Elder Bednar nailed it. But really though :P

Hey y'all! Can we just talk about General Conference for a minute?!
So good, right?! When Elder Bednar started speaking, I dunno if you thought, "Man. I wish our investigators were here!" But I know I wasn't! M. and A. were sitting right next to us and listening to every word. Those two are great :)

'Meet the Mormons' Movie is more of an informational thing than a proselyting opportunity, so we won't be going to see it in theaters after all! We got to watch it on Tuesday! So good. So very good. We laughed. We cried. I sure hope y'all are near a theater that is showing it! The Spirit is way strong. Especially in the last one. But I'm biased to the whole missionary thing... haha

My testimony is always strengthened when others try to tear it down. It doesn't happen a lot. But it does happen occasionally, and I'm grateful to stand up for what I have learned to be as truth.

Once again, conference was great. I got a lot of answers to questions I had, and a lot of answers to questions I didn't realize I had. Heavenly Father is cool like that :)

The church is true! And even when we're awkward, the Spirit still testifies, thank goodness! ;)
Love y'all!
~Sis Jacobs.

Sept. 29, 2014

Quote of the week: '1 Nephi 2:15 really stuck out to me . . . "

Aloha one and all! :)

Well. This week flew by.

M. and A. We missed them. A lot. Glad they're back in town :) They're doing really well! We've mapped out all the rest of the lessons they need to take and things and they're ready to do it! I just love them :) They're loving the Book of Mormon and have lots of questions. The quote of the week is actually from M. He was like, "that's such a random verse. Why did they put that in there?" And I was like, "Easy scripture mastery." Jokes. I didn't say that :) A. came to the General Women's Broadcast on Saturday! Was that not the best in the world? I think it was great! So A. is sandwiched between Sister Adorable and me and we kept leaning over to explain things at the same time, hah. It was funny :) It was a miracle! We asked her after it was over if she's receiving answers to her questions and she told us a cool story. The other day she was at work and a co-worker came up to her and told her that another co-worker commented on this new glow that A. has about her. "I didn't think anything of it until that talk about glowing. I've noticed the change inside of myself, but I didn't realize it's something that other people can see, too! Is that a sign?" Yes A., it is :) Miracle? yes. I believe so. :) The Spirit is real. Revelation is real. The Church is true, my friends! Surely it is :)

Our investigator C. is a rockstar! I don't even think we've talked about her. And by we I mean I. Hah. Go mission life. Anyway. She grew up in Arizona and she and her young family moved out here in May-ish. She was having a harder time finding friends than she thought, so her LDS friends in Arizona called up someone in the church and asked if we'd go by to let her know about the activities in the area. Well. That referral happened before I even got here. One of my previous companions, Sister Winegar, and I tried to meet her a million times. No luck. So then Sister Adorable got here and I was like, "heck, why not?" So we tried again and actually met her! She didn't really grow up with a religious background, but she knows that Christ is important and she wants to know how she can apply that in her life so her kids (4, 2 and 6 mos) can have that foundation. This last week she's been practicing prayer the way that we've taught her and she felt the spirit for the first time. She was lying in bed, half praying, half sleeping and she thought, "Are you really there? Do you really love me?" And an overwhelming warmth came over her whole body that she completely woke up and she said she almost felt silly for asking those questions, "Of course he loves me. Of course He's there." We had a really awesome conversation about listening to the Spirit. She's cool :)

I love it here. I look around this quiet library of people that I don't even know and I feel love. What on earth would ever give me such an opportunity to feel love? The calling of missionary. I am ever so grateful for it :)

Love y'all! Have a happy conference week! :) Prepare and I know you'll receive the instruction that you're seeking.

Quote of the week: "Be an organ donor. Give your heart to Jesus."

Hello one and all!
What a wonderful week!! We were able to do so much! We talked to so many people and taught so many lessons! It is just so good to work hard :) Did we reach all of our goals? Nah. In fact we were just shy of most of them. Was that frustrating? A bit. But we know we did our best and that's all that matters :)

Okay. So last week we did a musical # in church, Joseph Smith's First Prayer. I think I shared that last week... but anyway. It was really awesome and the Spirit was super strong :) That night we had dinner with the K. family. They're some of my favorite people. Usually after dinner and a thought, we'll spend a few minutes singing hymns and a couple of jazzed up primary songs. It's my favorite thing :) Anyway. Sis K wasn't at sacrament meeting because she's in the stake primary presidency, so she travels to other wards lots. She asked us to sing our song for her, and she recorded it on her camera. After dinner she came out with us for a lesson. Of course it fell through. So we thought we'd swing by J & M's house with a plate of cookies which we had made earlier that day. Convenient, no? :) So M comes out for a minute and she told us how bummed she is that she and J missed church. So Sis K whips out her camera and shows her! Tender mercy!! So then she's like, "J needs to see this!" So they let us come in and J is drawing this master piece of Christ mounting a horse with armor... something about reading 1 Nephi that reminded him of this dream he had of Christ mounting an armored horse. Anyway. M kindly interrupted him and we watched the video again. Once again the Spirit filled the room and brought J to tears. Sis Adorable and me, too. I know they know it's true. It's just up to them to make the decision. It's comforting to know that they still have good ties to members and missionaries, and they just want a break from the lessons. :)

Then there's our other investigators, M and A. Man. These two. They have my heart :) So we had a great lesson with them on Tuesday! We asked him how he felt about church and he had 2 comments. One related to the lesson. The other was, "Why is it that Mormons have a better ear and can sing so well?!" He explained that when he was in Priesthood, they didn't have a piano, but of course opened with a song and the men stayed in tune! He said that he almost had to stop singing and listen for a minute because he couldn't believe his ears. Oh yeah. M. majored in vocal performance. I almost joked that being Mormon gives the gift of vocal cords. But then I didn't. Haha :) They are so good. They love watching conference talks on lds.org. They love reading the scriptures. They love lessons. They love the restored gospel! Which is great because the restored gospel loves them! :)
We just started meeting with them multiple times a week and this past week they went out of town so we only got to teach once. And as we got ready to leave M said, "I get why you want to meet more than once a week! Having you over only once is going to make this week so long!" Well yeah. For us, too. We're excited to see them again tomorrow :)

The culture of the GANM is changing! We are no longer doing scripture dinner thoughts! *Gasp* Instead, we're role playing with the members!
We ask the members beforehand if they can think of a friend or family they they can impersonate and then we teach as if we're teaching them! We have had some seriously cool experiences with it. And I love it!! I've always liked role playing, but this is taking it to a whole new level! So fun :) So now... all we ever do is teach! When we're with investigators, we're teaching. When we're with less actives, we're teaching. When we're with recent converts, we're teaching. As we're contacting and tracting, we're teaching. And when we're with members we're --you guessed it-- teaching! :)

In fact. A couple of days ago we went to visit some members and their daughter in law was there. She has some interesting beliefs, but it was cool to get to know her. We presented this idea to the family to role play with them and Sis K goes, "Well. L isn't a member, you can practice on her!" We look over at L. and she was like, "sure!" So we did! It was really awesome. At the end, Sis K walked us to the door and was like, "Every time the missionaries come over, she leaves the room when they share a thought. This is the first time she's ever stayed. AND participated!" So cool. I love role playing :) Heck. I just love being a missionary :)

Well. I think I've taken up enough screen space this week.
It's been a good one and I'm looking forward to this upcoming week as well! :)
I love you all!!

~Sis Jacobs.

Sept. 15, 2014

Quote of the week "God invented the first wireless phone... it's called prayer."

Hello to one and all!

There is opposition in all things. We had a really awesome lesson with J and M on Tuesday. We texted them a scripture of the day on Wednesday, and they responded with the request to stop lessons. We were super bummed. They were really progressing, but knew they were to a point where they needed to make a decision. And, well, they did. Their main fellowshipper is still in touch with them as a friend and he keeps us posted. He talked to J about it and J knows the Book of Mormon is true. He knows it. M is backpeddling a little bit, and they want to do this together. The struggles that they're having can only be figured out on their own. And we understand. It's comforting to know that we have done our best. All we can do is invite and help along the way and then love people enough to respect their use of the gift God gave them: agency.

I drew a connection with them and 3 Nephi 17. Christ teaches the people in the Americas. They listen. But they start to get tired or zone out or whatever and He tells them to ponder on His words and He'll return the next day. Why? Because His Father's message is so important that they need to hear it when they're paying full attention. J and M hit that point. They need time to process everything that we've taught them in the last 2 months and then when they're ready to listen to more, they'll come back. Or we'll go back. Or what not. Oddly enough, I feel a lot of peace with the whole situation.

Our other investigators, M and A are awesome!!!!! We asked them if we could meet with them multiple times a week and they were like, "We would love that! But won't that be too much for you?" Hah. Funny joke :) We went and saw Momma Debbie 3 times a week sometimes! :) Anyway. They are stellar at making connections! We've been giving them reading assignments and also General Conference talks to watch on lds.org. She loves the emphasis of love that is woven through our lessons, the Book of Mormon and the videos they watch. Which makes me so happy. Because really, that's what it's all about! Not the Hokey Pokey... but Love! :) They came to church yesterday and the talks and lessons were all about Missionary Work and the temple. whiiiiiich we haven't covered yet in our lessons. My comp, Sis Adorable and I were super worried about what they thought. But we talked to her after RS and she mentioned how she wants us to teach her Mom because of the peace and joy that she feels from the lessons and doesn't know how to go about doing it-- Missionary work!! :) Also, we talked a bit about sealings in the temple and she expressed concern that because she wasn't born Mormon, she and M wouldn't be able to go to the temple to be sealed. Sis Adorable was able to share her experience of being sealed to her family in the Salt Lake Temple when she was five. A now understands that the temple isn't only a possibility for them, but our goal for them! :) Soooo.. it was perfect :) Like. Very perfect :)

Transfer news!!! I'm staying here with Sister Adorable!! So what'll happen with us?! Well. We're dying together in this area! Pres Bennion just called another set of Sister Training Leaders here because we have so many sets to take care of. We'll be able to work with the other set of STLs (Sister Trainer Leaders) and conquer so much more!! So blessed. Anyway. By the time that Sis Adorable and I leave, there will be less sisters and not so much of a need for 2 sets of STLs, so we'll just refer all of our investigators to the other sisters in the area and our apartment will either get switched to an elder apt, or... just stay vacant! Crazy, right? I'm quite pleased :)

I love this area. I love these people. I just love :)
Well! Hope y'all have a great week!
Til next time,
~Sis Jacobs.

Having lots of fun at the Clark's!! We make fools of ourselves and love it :)

Nasty bug. It jumps. And is gross. Don't worry. I killed it.

Sept. 8, 2014

Quote of the week: "Ma'am, I may be an idiot, but I know that Jesus Christ is our Savior and that he loves you"

^^ An account of a tracting story from some elders in our zone. This was in response to, "You're all annoying, stop coming by! And anyone that thinks a teenage boy can be an elder is an idiot!" The words of a missionary are powerful. This is His work. And it's real.

Family!

We got permission for all the sisters in our zone to go to Stone Mountain today!! It's barely out of the mission, but we get to go once in our time here, so that was a blast! That's why I'm so late emailing. It was so fun!!

As far as this week is concerned... Oh. S. She's a Recent Convert since March and she'a a doll. She decided to get some family names ready for the temple so she could go on Wed. Aaaaaand we got to go with her because it was her first time! It was so special! She did the proxy baptisms for her mom and sister and then had a brother in the ward do her father's. Afterwards we talked to her about how she felt, "I feel just like I did for my own baptism, but I knew it was my mother, sister and father that were so happy." So special. So tender. The members we got a ride with were doing other temple work upstairs, so we got to read the Book of Mormon in the baptistry waiting room til they were done. I looooooooove the temple

I love tracting. Love it. LURVE IT!!!! So the whole mission has been working on being better and bolder in our contacting and life is just so much more beautiful!! I was role playing at a meeting as an "investigator" and the sister who contacted me told me, "We're not here to tell you to believe in the Book of Mormon. We're here to share with you something that has changed our lives and then invite you to read, study and use that relationship you already have with God to ask for yourself if it's true!" I have said that (or something similar to it) a million times, but once I heard her say it as an "investigator" I realized just how bold that statement is! We have no fear introducing the Restored Gospel and then inviting others to read and pray and find out for themselves, because the message is so true that I know (in the Lord's time) what kind of answer they'll receive! Yup. Bold. It's cool

A few months ago a sister made a comment about letting our real personalities shine through the missionaries we are. Heavenly Father sent us to touch certain people because of who we are, but if we let ourselves fall into the habit of being robots... we'll never be able to touch those people! So in combination of those two paragraphs, I had a really cool experience this week. It was little. But it was cool

Basically we were tracting and a young father answered the door. He was super not interested. But he had a cool Harry Potter shirt on. So we started talking about Harry Potter. And then had the chance to talk about the Gospel. I tried super hard to just be myself, and to share the things that he would need to hear. At the end we invited him to take the lessons and he said, "you know what? Y'all have been real people with me. And just because I've enjoyed having you on my doorstep, I'll let you come back." It was refreshing because I've been working on that. Just being me. A better version of me every day, but still the Sis Jacobs that Father in Heaven sent here

I'm learning how to love better. How to communicate better. How to let go of the things that really don't matter. And how to be who He wants me to be. It's been really cool to reflect and recognize the change of nature that this 'refiner's fire' is jump starting.

I love y'all lots
Til next week,
~Sis Jacobs.

Sept. 1, 2014

Hello, hello, one and all!

Sometimes I feel like nothing happens in a week and then I look back and say, "What? That was this week?!?" Yeah. Pretty crazy.

We had a lesson with a super awesome couple, M. and A. We taught them quite a bit and they're very open and receptive to it all! She grew up catholic and he's currently into music ministry or something. They're so good at asking questions! I love it Questions are the best. Like, ever!

That day we had lunch with Sister Bennion (the mission President's wife) because she loves us I love her!! Our waiter talked to us about our name tags and so we got to teach him a little bit about the Gospel. I love this little black nametag

J. & M. are still rock stars!! They're a little bit slower with the lessons, but it's because they take every little thing in. He has said that he won't get baptized until he knows without a shadow of a doubt that this is what the Lord wants for him, but when he does get that confirmation, we won't be able to fill the font quickly enough. They're getting there We had a really good question/answer lesson with them. Man. I love that couple

We're still meeting with S., a recent convert who got baptized in Feb. We were able to help her with Family Search to get some names and she's going to the temple on Wed She's cute

G. dropped us for lessons, but we still text him scriptures and invite him to church and stuff and he loves learning and praying. Honestly. If I could copy and paste some of his texts, you'd think that he was getting baptized this week. The main reason he stopped meeting with us is because his wife thinks we're crazy and refuses to come to like a dinner or activity with us present.

We're back in with O.! He kinda dropped for a while but we decided to go back. We taught a completely different lesson than we had planned and it was soooo good! We were able to actually sit with him just study from the Bible and Book of Mormon and help him to see the similarities. It was good.

aaaand that's about it!
Love y'all!
~Sis Jacobs.

Lunch with Sister Bennion and the sister missionaries

Sister Paepae. I went on my first exchange with her over a year ago and she's my hero.
She came back with her husband! ( ah!!) and we saw her on Sunday.

Quote of the week:  "I will take care of you, just use your talents and leave the rest to Me"

What a week. A week of reflection and pondering.

Our investigators J and M came to church yesterday!! :) They fit in so well. Like... sooo well. The ward is so supportive of people visiting and it has been amazing to see! :) The topics were perfect! That can be a scary thing sometimes, wondering what the talks are going to be on. But this week was awesome. I think he really enjoyed seeing members of all ages talk in sacrament meeting.

Our other investigator G. is a rockstar, too. We had another lesson with him and he's so great :) The members are doing a great job of helping him feel welcome. We still haven't met his wife yet, she thinks we're weird, haha. Or so he says. So we're in the process of scheduling something with members so she can meet them and realize that we're all normal people who believe in the same Jesus Christ :)

Zone Conference week!! I love zone conf. Love it!! We learned about the movie coming out in October, 'Meet the Mormons' Aaaand... we can go!! Haha. We're telling all the people we can about it :) It'll be great!

President also mentioned iPads. He said that according to Salt Lake, our mission is dead.last. on the list to have them. Why? Because we don't need them! Lots of missions have had to practically give up on tracting (knocking door to door) or do it simply to fill time. But our investigators still come from tracting! Which I think is flattering :) I love tracting and I'm so grateful that we still get to do it! :) So as far as technology is concerned, it ain't happnin in my time as a Sister. And I'm grateful :) The Lord knows my heart :)

I learned a lot about being bold this week. And it's something I know I need to do. So that's my focus! Being bold used to scare me. But then I realized that I can be bold with love. And this last week I had another epiphany! It's not even about being bold with love.... it's about being bold beCAUSE of love! And if you know me, you know that I'm all about love :) Haha. Christlike love, that is :) One of my favorite quotes from this week was, "We don't have time to be weak in our contacting" and it's true. We don't have time to be anything but our best. That doesn't mean we need to run around like chickens with our heads cut off... but it does mean that consistent, steady work is what the Lord expects of us. No matter what our calling is.

I'm grateful for member missionaries. I'm grateful for full time missionaries. And I love the Work. It is a great work! It is His work, and miracles are brought through His power, but wrought by the faith of the individual (Ether 12:13-16 and Hebrews 11).

Love y'all! Have a happy week :)
~Sister Jacobs

Aug. 18, 2014 - Temple Day!

Quote of the week: "Name that movie!" "... The Living Scriptures!"

What a miracle week.

The biggest miracle actually started on transfer day a few weeks back. Sister Adorable got all her stuff in the car and we were just catching up on the mission. Reminiscing the good ole MTC days etc. I could draw this out really long. But basically she told me that one of her converts from her first area would be going through the temple and she was just waiting for Pres to confirm that she could be there for it. Which would mean that I could go, too. I cried. But I didn't get my hopes up. About a week later, she got the 'go' from Pres. I cried again. I hadn't been to the temple since the MTC... that was a long time ago. We went to the Temple on Friday. I can't even describe how it felt to be there again! As we walked in, I saw members from my first area. And more. And more!!! It just happened to also be the Webb Bridge temple night. (The very first area Ashley served in) Which was another tender mercy. As I sat in the endowment session, I took a deep breath and I remember feeling so... at home. Like that's where I belong. I will never ever take the temple for granted. It's such a wonderful place to be. I love the Spirit there. I love the people there. I love the peace it brings.

Funny story. So sometimes Sister Adorable has a hard time being an English missionary again after 9 months of Spanish. I don't blame her. It'd be super tough. So our first legit lesson together was with our investigators J. & M. I told her about them and she got really nervous. It had been kind of a stressful day and we hadn't had time to actually plan out our lesson for them. So... we pulled over on our way to their appt and just talked for a minute. She really opened up about her concerns. She said, "I'm just nervous for this lesson because he's a pastor and I don't even know where things are in my English scriptures and... well.. I don't know how to teach white people anymore!" I waited for a second and then looked over at her and said, "...would it help if I told you that they're black?" She looked at me for a sec and then erupted in a fit of giggles and I couldn't help but join in :) J & M are the best. Still doing great :)

I love it here. I'm never leaving. Ever :) Have a great week and remember that miracles are real. Proof that Father in Heaven is, too :)
Love y'all!

Quote of the week: "Grass. It's the wet wipe of nature"

What a miracle week!

My new companion is Sis Adorable and I love her!!!! She is just the best! She just spend the last 9 months of her mission in the same Spanish area, and now she's back to English again! We've both grown a lot from when we met the MTC. I'm glad that we're companions

Our investigators J and M are doing well! Still reading and praying and desiring to learn truth! It's been good. The member we brought with us this time knows one of their sons because he went to high school with her son. Go connections! The Spirit is so awesome. She was waaaay stressed before coming out with us and we almost told her not to worry about it, but after the lesson she told us that it must've been Satan trying to keep her from going because they needed her and she needed them.

Our investigator M. is a rockstar! She's been taking lessons off and on for like 5 years. Her main fellowshipper in the ward moved to Utah so she just told us about M and asked us to check on her every once in a while. The last few lessons, we've gone waaaay back to basics and talked about recognizing the Spirit and acting on those promptings. The lessons have been pretty powerful. It's simply up to her to act.

Another investigator G!! He's great!! We haven't been able to actually sit down with him since last week, but we've been texting him scriptures of the day from the Book of Mormon. And wait. So has he!!! He picked a scripture that he felt brought him a lot of peace and texted it to us so we could have a spiritual boost, too! It was fantastic! He's excited to learn more about how church services are organized and stuff. Cool guy. Way cool.

On Friday and Sat we had some meetings and a couple of other sisters from another zone spent the night with us. We all just happened to love singing. Sooo we decided to go tract singing! We grabbed our mini hymn books, opened up to Hymn #26 and went on our way! The first door we knocked on, a guy in his early 30's answered. "Hi. We're missionaries and we're actually going around tonight singing. Do you mind if we sing y'all a song?"

"Yeah! Actually. My Dad sang barbershop! He'd love to hear y'all. Just a sec"

After a few seconds, his dad and his mom came to the door. We sang the first and last verses of Joseph Smith's first prayer and the Spirit was so strong on that doorstep. We kept talking to them and got to share quite a bit. It was a powerful experience. They asked us to sing one more song before we left and we chose 'Nearer my God to Thee'. One of my favs. One of them sang with us! It was so great. They are so excited to learn more. And we are so excited to sing the next few lessons! Haha.

You know. I actually had a really cool experience last week. I don't think about post mission life a lot, but last Sunday a sister in the ward mentioned how her son was coming home from his mission and I thought, "Oh my gosh. That really happens. What am I gonna do about paying for school? Will I keep studying the same thing? How am I going to..." I stopped the thoughts, took a deep breath and felt the impression, "Use your voice. I will take care of you." That taught me a lot. I can't do much. But the talents and abilities we each have are given to us specifically to help build the Lord's kingdom on the Earth. For me, it's my built-in music box. Others are so good at listening. Or serving. Or being selfless. Or what ever else. He expects us to use those talents. And if we use them, how can we fail? I presume we cannot

Speaking of singing. Sister Bennion (the mission president's wife) is starting up the mission choir! We had our first practice Saturday morning and I just died of happiness. A year is far too long to go without singing in a choir. Every time I think about the timing of my life, and of being here, I am amazed. Father in Heaven is in the details of our lives. He really is

Love y'all lots!
~Sister Jacobs
